The card game known as "Bent Seven" in the United States has derivatives around the world. Some of the changes in rules and names are pretty interesting. I've highlighted a few below. (Names are translated.) Maybe we should try them sometime:
Canada (Bent Seven): Game played from right to left.
France (Penguin): No socials under any circumstances.
Italy (Sunrise in the East): Play of third ace re-sets contracts at option of player holding final ace, but he is docked 45 points at the last spread if he neglects to play the ace before the run ends.
Spain (The Debutante): Dealer deals clockwise; can elect to re-deal after the second flip, but has to deal contraclockwise in such cases.
Russia (Running Bear Toss): Game played with two decks, both split into red and black and then combined for single-color decks used in alternating games.
South Africa (Teeth of the Jaguar): Opening deal always down-down-up-down, with exceptions.
UK (Captain's Chair): No bidding until third pass.
